Eglinton Crosstown LRT

The latest design panels from the November and December 2009 open house for the Eglinton Crosstown LRT are now online, along with a map showing all planned underground stations and street level stops. With the provincial government’s recent announcement of $4.6 billion in funding for the LRT, construction is set to begin this summer.

During this process, we will continue to consult with the local communities to ensure that this amazing new line will cause the least amount of disturbance to the surrounding neighbourhoods as possible.

The entire stretch of the Eglinton LRT that passes through Ward 21 will be underground, with construction set to begin on this area in 2012. It will be part of a fantastic new 32 kilometer light rail line, which will connect to the Bloor-Danforth Subway and the Yonge-University-Spadina Subway.

Besides being entirely underground in Ward 21, the Eglinton LRT will remain below the street as far east as Laird Drive, where it will continue at street level as far east as Kennedy Subway station. Going west, the light rail line will be underground until Keele Street, then continuing above ground all the way to Pearson Airport.

Service is scheduled to begin in 2016.
