Part of the former City of York, Ward 21 (St. Paul’s West) is roughly bounded by Spadina Road to the east, the CPR tracks (north of Dupont) to the south, Winona Drive to the west, and Briar Hill Avenue to the north.
The 2006 Census reported that 47,085 people (comprising 21,530 households) call Ward 21 home. Of the private dwellings in the ward, 36% were high-rise apartments, 28% were low-rise apartments, and 24% were single-detached homes. Of these residences, 42% were owned and 58% were rented.
The 2006 Census also reported that residents of Ward 21 identified their ethnocultural background as Jewish, Filipino, Canadian, Italian, Chinese, Portuguese, English, Polish, Jamaican, and more. The languages spoken in the ward include English, Spanish, Italian, Tagalog, Portuguese, Greek, Hungarian, Russian, French, and many others.
